Can a Water Loss Occur at my Business?
9/8/2021 (Permalink)
For a commercial property owner in Illinois, unexpected water problems can be a big issue. Fortunately, a water damage professional can help you assess, clean, and repair damages from any flooding or leaks you may have. Here are a few of the most common water problems a business may face from leaking pipes to foundation cracks.
1. Pipe Breaks
A pipe break can occur in a number of ways. Over time, the pipe can age and loosen in its fittings, or extensive use can lead to pinhole leaks. Extreme heat or cold can also affect a pipe’s integrity. A blocked pipe can lead to pressure buildup and eventually burst.
2. Plumbing Backup
Blocked plumbing can even lead to a toilet backup or sink overflow. When a pipe is blocked, water can take the shortest path out regardless of its intended flow path. Blockages can occur from a number of things, including the buildup of water minerals over time inside a pipe or someone pouring a solidifying material, such as plaster or grease, down a drain.
3. Weather
Extreme weather conditions can also lead to leaking pipes. Cold temperatures can cause the water in pipes to freeze and expand. The expansion puts pressure on the pipe and can create a crack or even cause it to burst altogether. If you know cold weather is coming, you can check with a local professional about what preventive measures to take.
4. Foundation Cracks
Foundation cracks can also become a problem leading to water damage. Water can seep through any cracks and pool, leading to further issues such as mold. Any cracks should be investigated and assessed as soon as possible to determine the best course of action. Water damage can happen to a commercial property. Fortunately, a professional can fix the damage caused by leaking pipes, foundation cracks, backed up toilet, or weather, and help you repair your property.
When your business is affected by water damage, SERVPRO of Elk Grove/E. Schaumburg/Itasca/Roselle and SERVPRO of Palatine/Rolling Meadows are ready and available 24/7 to begin emergency services. Call us at (847) 593-3055!
Water Damage to Your Warehouse and Inventory Supplies
7/19/2021 (Permalink)
When plumbing connections fail in your warehouse, not only is your property from water damage, but your inventory may be affected as well. Our team of water removal specialists can be at your site quickly to remove the water and begin the drying process to save your property.
SERVPRO has submersible pumps and heavy-duty water extractors to drain and suck the standing water out of every square inch of your property. Afterwards, our trained technicians will search for any pockets of hidden water to ensure a thorough dry out. We also measure the moisture content of any affected materials and the structure of the affected areas in order to set an appropriate drying plan.
We arrange your inventory strategically, off the warehouse floor, if possible, to maximize air flow. Our industrial air movers and dehumidifiers are then set in place to begin the drying process. Time is of the essence as mold growth can begin within just 24 to 48 hours of the water loss occurrence if not abated. Once the drying cycle is set in motion, our technicians will track the process daily to make sure proper drying is occurring.
SERVPRO also works with your insurance throughout, limiting your out-of-pocket expenses if your losses are included under your coverage. We also problem solve with you to avoid a repeat occurrence in the future. We highly encourage you to look into our Emergency Ready Profile to plan ahead with us.
SERVPRO of Elk Grove / E. Schaumburg / Itasca / Roselle has the training, tools, and technicians to handle your commercial water damage challenges. Call us at (847) 593-3055 to set up an evaluation.

How To Spot Water Damage To Floors And Other Areas
6/14/2021 (Permalink)
Water damage can happen from any number of situations: pipe leaks, storm damage, blocked drains, HVAC units, and many others. Here are some of the initial signs that water damage has occurred in your home or business:
- An increase in your utility bills can mean there is a leak somewhere in your pipes or fixtures.
- A moldy or damp smell in the air can be a result of sitting water in the walls, ceiling, or floors.
- Dark or noticeable wet spots on carpets or ceilings causing discoloration from water damage.
- Sounds of running water, dripping, or leaking from pipes.
- Cracking, flaking, or bubbling of paint on walls or ceilings.
If you have wood floors or laminate, you could begin to see it warp and buckle as a result from water damage. If there is a stain, that is the result of slow and consistent leak, whereas mold development is a sign of spots that have been consistently damp for a period of time. Be sure to get a professional’s opinion to accurately gauge the amount of damage because if considerable amount of damage has occurred to the subfloors they will need to be removed and replaced.
If you suspect water damage on the subfloors or floors, look for:
- Sunken and uneven floors
- Shifting or bouncing when walking across the floors
- If you notice a musty smell in certain rooms or areas
- Squeaking noises
Our team here at SERVPRO have the right equipment and are trained to recognize these signs of water damage and will help you to restore your home or business back to the way it was.

Call the Experts to Take Care of Your Mold Damage
5/27/2021 (Permalink)
SERVPRO is certified to take care of mold safely and effectively.
Mold contamination is not something you can ignore and hope it goes away. Mold growth will continue to spread and cause damage to building materials. Remediating mold properly requires certifications and expertise to not only clean visible mold growth, but also to clean and scrub the air of excess mold spores to pass inspection. This is especially crucial in commercial buildings and businesses to protect employees and customers.
At SERVPRO, we take mold remediation seriously, and our crew chiefs are certified as Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians by the IICRC. Once we assess the extent of the damages, we can create a comprehensive remediation plan in order to restore your property quickly and safely. We can also coordinate mold testing for further peace of mind and documentation. These tests can show microbial and spore levels throughout the property and will determine whether our work was successful in reducing these levels and restoring air quality.

SERVPRO can help you not only dry and decontaminate your property after a sewage water loss, but also help put your property back together.

Common Water Issues for Businesses
6/28/2019 (Permalink)
For a commercial property owner in Schaumburg, IL, unexpected water problems can be a big issue.
